Manifesto
If I elected as chairperson of International Club at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, I will make a wonderful PARTY. PARTY is an abbreviation.
P = Place
1. The Core
There are 440 students at the Core, The Core Management should provide ATM, drug store, medical doctor, food counter which open 24 hours, also provide cleaning service and rats/snakes exterminator because much dirty in the corridors at the Core, many rats, (and snakes?)
2. Apartment
I see students who are living at apartment using many small plastic bags for garbage, this is not good, because if plastic bag broke then garbage pull out that will make dirty. We will campaign using cardboard for garbage at apartment. Cardboard boxes work best - many stores will give you their broken down empties if you ask, and you just have to put them together with a small amount of tape.
3.Parking
No parking signs at The Core car parking. We will ask the core management to give parking signs.
4 . Bus Stop
The Core lobby as a bus stop. We will ask the bus to enter and cross in front of the core lobby. I think this could be realize, because from my experience as bus passenger. Some buses enter into the housing to deliver its passengers based on passengers request. We will make request for every bus to enter and cross in front of the core lobby.
5. Vegetables Farm
Many empty lands at the Core, we can use it to grow our own vegetables. The perks of growing our own vegetables are far reaching: not purchasing foods from stores (Giant, The Mall, Yayasan), eating fresh vegetables at their nutritional peak, improving The Core's soil, integrating exercise seamlessly into our life, and admiring the beauty we create right in our hostel. The easiest vegetable to grow, taking just about 1-2 months, for example: spinach, carrot, radish, leeks, tomatoes, chili, onion leaf, etc.
6. Cat Fish Farm
With many empty lands at The Core, also We can made Catfish farm. Why catfish? Catfish are easy to farm in warm climates, also catfish have been widely caught and farmed for food for hundreds of years in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. We all international students mostly from Asia, Africa and some from Europe.
7. Small Zoo
We will made our own zoo. Many species here like birds, monkey. We choose location for zoo and place the food for them, they will come. Rat, snake and crocodile not include :)
8. Raising Flag
We will ask UBD to raising our country flag which represent country from where international student came for that I think in front ILIA Building is good place to raising our country flag, also raising our country flag at in front of the Core.
9. Bicycle Facilities
In many university across the world, bicycles are becoming a popular mode of transportation but not here in Brunei. We will ask UBD to gift bicycle facilities. Students without car can used bicycle as transportation to go to campus or shopping at Giant, also as much as possible, UBD should create bikeways and convenient bicycle parking. If a regional bicycle network exists, the campus bike system should connect to it.
10. Printing and Copying Facilities in Faculty
There are printing and copying facilities in Faculty of Science, but not every faculties at UBD give printing and copying facility. We will ask UBD to give printing and copying facilities in every faculties.
11. Common Room Facilities in Faculty
As far I know, no common room for students in every faculties at UBD, especially common room for graduate students. Students awarded with GRS (Graduate Research Scholarship) are required to contribute in teaching/tutoring sessions/any other activities of the faculty concerned for 6 hours per week. After giving tutorial or any other activities they can gather with other colleagues in faculty common room, they can share thoughts, ideas and their research in there. We will ask UBD to give common room in every faculties include with kitchen.
12. Website
Web ranking of Universiti Brunei Darussalam is 2376 (http://www.4icu.org/reviews/464.htm). We all International Students are genius people at treasure university :) Universiti Brunei Darussalam's (UBD) students are the "stakeholders" in the university's vision of making the top 50 universities in Asia. In UBD's plan to further internationalize the university, it has also been working toward increasing its international student population from five per cent to 20 per cent of the student body. We can help increasing UBD web rank or increasing our blog web rank for the purpose increasing international student population.
A = Attention
Activities for attention as follows:
1. Fund rising
Last year, as I knew, there are 3 disaster:s Zanzibar ferry disaster, Big flood in Thailand, and Flood in Cambodia.
- Zanzibar ferry disaster, At least 187 people died after an overloaded ferry sank off the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar with at least 800 people on board.
- Big flood in Thailand, Flooding persisted in some areas until mid-January 2012, and resulted in a total of 815 deaths (with 3 missing) and 13.6 million people affected. Sixty-five of Thailand's 77 provinces were declared flood disaster zones, and over 20,000 square kilometres (7,700 sq mi) of farmland was damaged. The disaster has been described as "the worst flooding yet in terms of the amount of water and people affected."
- Flood in Cambodia, had killed more than 100 people. The high water is devastating even for a country inured to monsoon rains and waterlogged rice fields: wide swaths of Cambodia’s countryside have become giant lakes, with villagers and livestock marooned on scattered patches of dry land. You know guys, there are our friends here from Zanzibar, many from Thailand and Cambodia. I was asking for myself, was there any family of our friends in that disaster?
In the future we should make fundraising if there are any disaster.
2. Student conselling

9. Dinner with The Ambassadors
Veronika Shabunko and I were join in Sawadee Club, at that time we all Sawadee members had dinner with Thai Ambassador, no charge. 10. Dinner with Ministry of Education
11. Dinner with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah/Pangeran Muda

T = Tomorrow
Tomorrow it’s mean for International Students future. Activities for international students future as follows:
1. Job Vacancy
Some of International students are jobless, because they studied directly from Bachelor degree, Master degree and Ph.D. degree so they never work before :D Job vacancy in here include Job search guide for jobless and job listings also for jobless : ))
Job search guide for jobless :) : Here are all the resources international students need for a successful online job search including how to write resumes, CVs, cover letters and other employment letters, where to look for jobs, how to conduct a job search, the best way to use networking and social media to job search, how to interview successfully and negotiate compensation, and how to research employment related benefits and legal matters.
Job Listings for jobless :) : Job listings directory including job banks, job search engine sites, local part-time jobs and full-time jobs, employment opportunities listed by type of job, as well as by type of job seeker, and additional job listing resources.
2. Love consulting/Love Bureau
Beside jobless, most of International students are single :D We will make a love consulting or love bureau as a bridge for finding the international relationship. For example if international student here want to find Indonesian girl for girlfriend or as a spouse, we can find it ;)
3. Supervisor symposium
Every Ph.D. student has supervisor, we will make a public lecture which given by our supervisor. This is very interesting because our supervisor has deep knowledge in their expertise.
4. Research Collaboration
A research collaboration could be defined as the working together of researchers to achieve the common goal of producing new scientific knowledge. Research collaboration make high productivity (in terms of published output), also the total credit given by the scientific community to all the authors of a jointly authored paper is greater on average than the credit allocated to the author of a single-author paper. We can make research collaboration.
5. English Course and Other Languages
Most of International student come from the country which has their own national language, so sometimes they mix their accent in English. English course here is to make general English, how to spoke English without accent from our national language. Meinhaj has starting this course last week, we can join every Saturday at 4.30pm at Inspiring room, Student Affair Section. Cost, only smile :)
Also for International students, if they don’t mind, they can teach their national language.
6. Presentation skill
We will make a class to learn presentation skill, we can invite lecture to share their experience about how to talk in front of the audience, also the important thing is how to use PowerPoint as presentation tool. The purpose of how to use PowerPoint is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using PowerPoint based on research and evidence; and to identify the ways to enhance understanding and deep learning by presenting material in a way that helps in information processing rather than mere information presentation. Why PowerPoint? PowerPoint presentations are very popular in delivering lectures and other materials. In recent years, the phrase `Death by PowerPoint` has become popular in describing the adverse effects of badly prepared PowerPoint presentations. Studies have shown that animations obscure rather than clarify the point. Similarly, the cartoons used in slides usually distract rather than convey the message. Overall the format of presentation becomes more important than the content :(
7. Scientific Writing
Writing an effective scientific paper is not easy. A good rule of thumb is to write as if your paper will be read by a person who knows about the field in general but does not already know what you did. We will make a class for scientific writing, good scientific writing will be accepted in International conference or International Journal. For example I will give here is abstract, why abstract? Because some conference accept abstract first before full paper. An abstract is a succinct (one paragraph) summary of the entire paper. The abstract should briefly describe the question posed in the paper, the methods used to answer this question the results obtained, and the conclusions. It should be possible to determine the major points of a paper by reading the abstract. Although it is located at the beginning of the paper, it is easiest to write the abstract after the paper is completed :)
8. How to get scholarship
Most of International student here got scholarship. Getting scholarship, for example to get PostDoc scholarship: candidates must have been conferred/obtained the PhD degree no more than three years. The candidate should have at least 5 high quality publications, hopefully 4 rank-A journal papers and 1 rank-B journal (for example most of the IEEE Trans. journals are rank A). The applicant should be the first or second author of these publications. I make a list for PostDoc Scholarship: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=2614624561530
We will socializing about how to get PostDoc Scholarship
